Classroom Connections: Dental Hygiene K-2art
February is Dental Awareness Month! Dr. Ned and his colleagues at Skyline Smiles (West Loop) were able to log on virtually with K-2 classes and present a slide show on the importance of taking good care of your teeth! He was generous enough to donate toothbrush kits to each student. The children had a blast and it was a nice change to their day. Thank you Dr. Ned!

Congratulations: Mr. MerkinMerkin
Congratulations to Mr. Merkin; he has been selected as a finalist for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. Only 32 finalists were selected from more than 700 nominated educators from schools across all of Illinois this year! More information can be found here and here.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transferebt
As part of the U.S. government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all CPS students are now eligible for food benefits as a result of the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). Through P-EBT, eligible school children receive temporary emergency nutrition benefits in the form of funds loaded on an EBT card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts Link cards.

All CPS students, regardless of income or citizenship status, are eligible for P-EBT. Families will receive P-EBT cards automatically and do not need to complete an application. Each child will receive their own card mailed to their primary address in Aspen. Please ensure your address is up to date in order to receive this benefit.

For additional information on this program, please view the FAQs, call the Healthy CPS Hotline at 773-553-KIDS or complete the Healthy CPS Encounter form or en Español.
CPS Advisory GroupAdvisory
To ensure that multiple viewpoints continue to be incorporated into district policy making, the district is launching an advisory group composed of diverse, representative voices to consider stakeholder feedback and propose an improved accountability system that builds upon the district's commitment to equity and national best practices.

The advisory group will review materials, research proposals on system designs, ensure the incorporation of parent, educator, and other stakeholder feedback, and provide recommendations for how it believes the district should redesign its accountability system. Out of a commitment to openness and transparency in the district's decision-making process, materials from these meetings will be available to the public via https://www.cps.edu/strategic.../accountability-redesign.

CPS Grab-and-Gomeals
Skinner is no longer a Grab-and-Go Meal site for Chicago students, the closest location is now Whitney Young.  Check out all the details, as well as other locations here. Please note, CPS has Skinner listed and this not correct.
CPS' 2021 Community Budget MeetingsBUDGET
CPS will hold town hall meetings to engage families around the district's budgeting process. These meetings will provide community members and all interested stakeholders with an overview of CPS' current funding methodologies and other aspects of the FY2021 budget. Attendees will also be able to share the needs of their school community and offer suggestions on how to make the district's school funding process more equitable, transparent, and sustainable.

To learn more about our budget, such as where our money comes from and how we distribute and spend our dollars, we encourage you to review our 2021 Resident's Guide to the Budgetexplainer video, and our FY2021 budget on cps.edu/budget for a comprehensive overview of the district's budget.

Three community meetings will be held virtually on the following dates:
Sat, Feb 20 | 10AM - noon | Register
Tues, Feb 23 | 6 - 8PM | Register
